Math 8 Reflection Sheet: Scientific Notation Population Project - Jamaica
1) Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
8.EE.3 - Use single digit numbers, times an integer power of 10 to estimate large and small mounts to show how many times bigger one number is than another.
8.ee.4 - Perform operations with numbers in scientific notation including operations that include decimal and scientific notation. Use scientific notation and units of measurements to write large and small amounts.
2) What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
The first step I took was to fill out a worksheet and glue it to the poster. I used my notes to fill out the worksheet. Next I had to put my information that I filled out on the worksheet that I had finished. Last I decorated the poster with both flags (the U.S. and Jamaican flags). What helped me the most was internet research. I had to research the U.S. and Jamaican populations, their flags, and the fun facts about the U.S. and Jamaica. To complete the math I mostly asked Ms. Diaz for help and my friend to help also.
3) This assignment demonstrates the following strengths..
This assignment demonstrates that I followed instructions that the teacher told us to do. I was able to perform operations using scientific notation and standard form. I was also able to ask for help when I needed it.
4) I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved my work on this assignment by adding more details on the poster and adding some color. Also, I could turn it in on time on the date the teacher provides.
5) How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I will use these skills in the real world if I had a job where I needed to estimate big numbers amounts. I may want to be computer programmer to make and design video games. This means I may to calculate the big numbers in my programming.
